How to plan a Career in International Affairs

The absence of a concrete career path that can be within the grasp of aspiring students who desire to be practitioners in international affairs has hampered the growth of global policy studies in India. JSIA’s international faculty base and Board of International Advisers ensures that its students find the relevant international institutions where they can go on to excel in rewarding careers. A graduate passing out of JSIA will be akin to what Georgetown University’s Masters in Foreign Service (MSFS) programme terms a “versatile international affairs professional”.

Since JSIA’s degree programme revolves around current international affairs and policy making, its students always find themselves on the front-line of action in the real world, so that theoretical knowledge imbibed in the classroom ambience is complemented by hands-on experience in diplomacy, international law and business. JSIA’s numerous worldwide collaborations with think tanks, research institutions, international organisations and diplomatic missions are leveraged to help students spend the summer breaks in relevant bodies in Delhi, SAARC country capitals, Europe, North America, Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Internships in the United Nations system, other intergovernmental, regional and non-governmental organisations, financial institutions, think tanks and diplomatic missions of various countries are stepping stones for full-fledged careers in international public service. A special Career Advisory Centre, manned by experienced practitioners who have profound knowledge and connections within intergovernmental and non-governmental sectors, is available at JSIA to assist students in finding the right internships in global policy making or opinion forming institutions.
